Terms of Service

Effective October 15, 2026

These Terms of Service (the "Terms") are an agreement between you and Legalfina, Inc. ("Legalfina", "we", "us") that governs your use of CoParentSage: the website at coparentsage.com, the CoParentSage mobile and desktop apps, and the services offered through them (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. What CoParentSage is

CoParentSage is a private messaging service for two parents who raise children in separate homes. Each parent has their own account, and the two accounts are joined by an invitation into a "link". Messages, subjects and attachments exchanged within a link are encrypted and stored securely, and are shown in the app only to the two parents on that link.

The Service also includes the Sage, an optional writing assistant that reviews the tone of a message before it is sent, and tools to keep a dated, unaltered record of your communication.

CoParentSage is not a law firm, does not provide legal advice and is not a substitute for a lawyer, mediator, therapist or court. Nothing in the Service creates an attorney-client relationship with Legalfina or anyone else.

2. Who may use the Service

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use the Service. The Service is designed for the parents or legal guardians of a child; it is not directed at children, and children must not be given accounts.

You may use the Service only in compliance with these Terms, any court order or parenting plan that applies to you, and all applicable laws.

3. Your account

You need an account to use the Service. You can create one with an email address and password, or by signing in with Google or Apple. You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for everything that happens under your account. Tell us at once through our contact page (coparentsage.com/contact) if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.

You must give us accurate information when you create your account and keep it up to date. Your display name and profile photo are shown to your co-parent.

We may offer two-factor authentication and other security features; we encourage you to turn them on.

4. Linking with your co-parent

A link is created when one parent invites the other and the invitation is accepted. Both parents on a link have equal access to everything exchanged within it. You may link only with the actual co-parent of your child; inviting someone else to impersonate a co-parent is a breach of these Terms.

Because the Service exists to keep a reliable record, a link cannot be dissolved by one parent alone. Deleting your account does not remove you from a link or hide your messages from your co-parent (see section 11). Blocking or muting features, where available, affect what you see, not the record itself.

5. Encryption and keys

Messages, subjects, attachments and drafts are encrypted on your device with a key that is unique to your link (the "link key") before they are stored. Our servers and databases hold only the encrypted form.

Legalfina acts as the custodian of the link key so that both parents can always read the shared record, including on a new device and after one parent has left. The link key is stored wrapped by a hardware-backed key management service and is released only to an authenticated, active member of the link. Legalfina does not use link keys to read your messages, except where the law requires us to (see section 5 of our Privacy Policy).

If a link is permanently closed (see section 11), its link key is destroyed and the encrypted history becomes unreadable to everyone, including us. We cannot recover it afterwards.

6. Sensitive information and security

We use reasonable measures to store your messages and attachments securely (see section 5). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and Legalfina does not guarantee that the Service, or anything you send or store through it, will be secure or free from unauthorized access, loss or disclosure.

Do not use the Service to send or store sensitive personal information or documents, including medical or health records and information, Social Security numbers or other government identification numbers, bank account or payment card numbers, passwords, or copies of identity documents and other sensitive papers. Share that kind of information through a channel meant for it, for example directly with your lawyer, doctor or the court.

If you choose to send or store sensitive information through the Service anyway, you do so at your own risk, and you are solely responsible and liable for that choice. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Legalfina is not liable for any loss or harm arising from unauthorized access to, or disclosure of, information you chose to share through the Service.

7. The Sage

The Sage is an optional feature that reviews the wording of a draft before you send it and may suggest a calmer or clearer version. When you ask for a review, or when automatic review is switched on in your settings, the text of that draft (and the names you have given for your co-parent and child, so the suggestion reads naturally) is decrypted on your device and sent over an encrypted connection to Legalfina's servers, which pass it to a third-party AI model provider to generate the review.

The Sage is a writing aid, not a judge, a lawyer or a therapist. Its suggestions can be wrong, and the decision to send any message remains yours. You can turn the Sage off at any time in Settings → The Sage; when it is off, no draft text leaves your device for review.

Draft text sent to the Sage is processed to produce the review and is not used to train AI models. See the Privacy Policy for the details.

8. Your records and court use

Every message in a link is stored with the time it was sent and the account that sent it, and cannot be edited or deleted by either parent once it has been delivered. This is deliberate: the Service is built so that the record is the same for both parents.

You may export or print your own records and use them as you see fit, including in legal proceedings. Legalfina makes no promise that any court, mediator or authority will accept them, and does not act as a witness or custodian of records on your behalf unless we expressly agree to in writing.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to harass, threaten or abuse anyone; to send content that is unlawful, defamatory or infringes someone else's rights; to upload malware; to impersonate another person; to attempt to access another person's account, link or keys; to interfere with or reverse-engineer the Service; or to use the Service for any purpose other than communication between co-parents about their family.

We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these Terms. Because the record belongs to both parents, suspending one account does not remove that parent's messages from the link.

10. Free trial, subscription and payment

Every new account starts with a free trial of 30 days. After the trial, continued use of the Service requires a subscription of $4.99 per month per parent, billed in advance. Prices are shown in US dollars and exclude any applicable taxes.

Subscriptions renew automatically each month until you cancel. You can cancel at any time in Settings → Subscription (or through the App Store or Google Play if you subscribed there); cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period and you will not be charged again. Fees already paid are not refunded, except where the law requires it.

We may change our prices. We will give you at least 30 days' notice by email before a price change applies to you, and you may cancel before it takes effect.

11. Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Delete account. Deletion signs you out everywhere and deactivates your account, but it does not erase the record you share with your co-parent: your co-parent keeps full access to the shared history, including your name, and can no longer send you new messages.

If you sign in again with the same email address, your account is reactivated and your access to the shared history is restored. Your account and the shared history are permanently erased once both parents on a link have deleted their accounts; at that point the link key is destroyed, the encrypted messages and attachments are deleted, and after a further retention period the remaining account details are anonymized.

The Privacy Policy explains exactly what is kept and for how long.

12. Your content and our software

You own the messages and attachments you create. You give Legalfina the limited permission needed to store, encrypt, transmit and display them to you and your co-parent, and to process draft text through the Sage when you ask for a review. We claim no other rights in your content.

The Service, its software, design, trademarks and documentation belong to Legalfina or its licensors and are protected by law. You may use the apps only as permitted by these Terms. Open-source components included in the apps are licensed under their own terms, listed on the Open-source licenses page.

13. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, Legalfina disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement and uninterrupted or error-free operation. We do not warrant that the Sage's suggestions are accurate or appropriate for your situation.

14. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Legalfina and its officers, employees and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits or the outcome of any legal proceeding, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or US$50 if you paid nothing.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

15. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in California, and you consent to their jurisdiction. Before filing a claim, please write to us through our contact page (coparentsage.com/contact); most issues can be resolved quickly that way.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If a change is material we will tell you by email or in the app at least 14 days before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms; if you do not, you may cancel and delete your account.
